After not so great initial reception, it looks like the Italian carmaker is about to give its best to make 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C a better and more competitive car. The initial launch of this mid-engine sports car was in 2013. Five years later, the company works on a facelift, which is about to bring various improvements. Some of the reports suggest a new engine option. Other than that, we should see changes that are usually for facelifts. In practice, that would mean a lot of new styling details, as well as some tweaks to the interior.
In terms of exterior design, there is not too much space for surprises. The 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C will continue with familiar base design characteristics. The core of this sports cars is a carbon frame, which along with the aluminum body saves a lot of weight. Further, this provides space for some smaller engines, so it’s no wonder that this car has been all about efficiency so far. On the other side, we could see some interesting modifications in terms of styling. Expect upgrades, mostly at the front end. Rest of the car should remain largely the same, though things like new wheels designs and exterior colors seem likely. Just like the current model, the 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C will continue in two body styles, coupe, and roadster.
This is the aspect where we expect to see a lot of improvement. The 4C offers a pretty simple and straightforward cabin design, very driver-oriented. That is definitely a good thing. Still, rivals like Jaguar F-Type or Mercedes SLC seem far more refined. Not to mention Porsche Cayman, which features similar price and performances, but significantly better interior. So, Alfa Romeo engineers should work on the improvement of materials quality. Some additions of tech features, like a rearview camera, would also be very nice.
At the moment, the 4C comes with one engine in the offer. It is a small and efficient 1.75-liter turbo engine, which has a max output of 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Such a combination provides 0-60 sprint in less than 4.5 seconds. For the next year, we could see an additional engine in the offer. It could easily be the same 2.0-liter unit that powers Alfa Romeo Giulia and which has a max output of 280 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Also, some sources suggest addition of manual transmission.
2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Release Date and Price
The updated 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C will probably have its premiere late in this year. On the other side, sales should start in early 2019. Changes in price are not expected, so base models should go around $56,000.
