2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

It looks like the Italian carmaker is preparing some interesting novelties for the next year. Despite the fact that this compact luxury crossover came a year ago, it looks like the first update is on its way. Still, it won’t be a facelift or something that common. The 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is about to get a new powertrain option in the offer. According to the latest reports, it will be a mild-hybrid version, which will come with an electric turbocharger and plenty of power. Other than that, we expect to see no bigger changes. So, expect a familiar styling and interior design, while list of standard equipment could be expanded for a bit.

2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio side

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio should continue in the same way. This compact crossover rides on the same Giorgio platform that is used for Giulia sedan. So, both cars offer pretty amazing handling and driving dynamics, which are definitely the strongest point of this model. Of course, there is a very attractive styling, which has always been out of question when it comes to Alfa Romeo. The crossover features the brand’s latest design language and once again has a lot in common with Giulia. For the next year, we probably won’t see any important novelty, though there is a chance for new colors and similar minor tweaks.

2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio interior

While the styling and driving characteristics are definitely strong points of this dynamic crossover, the interior design isn’t spectacular at all. Compared to key competitors Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, the 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will definitely feature better driving dynamics. However, the quality of interior materials is on a much lower level. Also, there are practicality issues. This crossover offers below-average cargo space, as well as pretty tight rear bench.

We are finally coming to the model’s most interesting parts. The biggest change for the 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be under the hood. We expect to see a new powertrain option. Most likely, it will be a mild hybrid system, which will feature a 2.0-liter gasoline engine in a combination with 48-volt electric turbocharger. According to the latest reports, a max output will go somewhere between 350-400 horsepower, which will definitely fill the gap between base versions and top-range Quattrofoglio. Rest of the engine lineup will remain the same. Base models will continue with a familiar 2.0-liter unit, which delivers around 280 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, top models will feature Ferrari’s 2.9-liter V6 unit, which is good for about 505 horsepower and 440 pound-feet o torque. Such huge amount of power is enough to provide 0-60 spring in less than 3.8 seconds.
