Originally known as a luxury sedan, this legendary nameplate is now used for several different models. The original version came in 1994 and we have seen five generations so far. The newest model has its presentation at the New York Auto Show and we can see a lot of novelties. It comes as a 2019-year model. The second year of production will also bring a lot of novelties. There is a famous A6 Avant to come, as well as a brand-new Allroad version, which will come with further enhancements in order to provide better capabilities. Here is all what we know so far about new 2020 Audi A6.

When it comes to exterior design, there is a lot of improvement in the new generation of this mid-size luxury car. First of all, there is a new platform, which utilizes some super-stiff but yet very light materials. This mostly refers to HSS and aluminum. Compared to the previous generation, the new one is significantly lighter. A sedan version has already come. On the other side a station wagon body style, better known as Avant will be ready pretty soon. Finally, there is a completely new Allroad version, which adds some of the crossover flavors. In practice, this means new suspension, higher ground clearance, and similar things. This version will be a direct rival to models like Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain and Volvo V90 Cross Country.


All version of the new 2020 Audi A6 will feature pretty much the same interior design. Compared to the previous generation, you can notice a new dashboard design, which is heavily inspired by the new A7. There are similar lines, as well as the same new version of the MMI infotainment system. Controls are digitalized pretty much completely, so there are actually two touchscreens. A larger one, 10.2-inch screen is for the new infotainment system, while a slightly smaller 8.6-inch touchscreen is for climate controls. Besides new gadgetry, there a bunch of advanced safety systems as well. Some of the most notable are active lane control and adaptive cruise control, parking assist, vehicle-to-infrastructure hardware etc.

While European version predominately comes with TDI units, North American models are available in gasoline version only. It is important to mention that the complete engine lineup is electrified, so those units are actually mild hybrids, which in practice brings better mpg ratings. Back to the North American version, there is a familiar 3.0-liter V6 engine, which for this occasion delivers around 340 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all wheels in base models. Such configuration guarantees 0-60 time in about 5 seconds.

Expect to see 2020 Audi A6 sometime in the second half of next year. Base models should go around $50,000.
