Introduced in 2012, the Encore is the entry-level crossover of the famous car maker. Seven years later, it seems like a perfect time to introduce the second generation. For this occasion, GM has prepared a lot of novelties, so the 2020 Buick Encore should come with some quite significant improvements compared to the original. First of all, there is a brand-new platform, which will be premiered introduced with this subcompact crossover. It should significantly improve the ride quality and bring benefits in many other aspects as well. Of course, there is a new styling to come, as well as a complete cabin design and a new powertrain. Expect to see 2020 Encore next year.
The most important thing about this redesign will definitely be a new platform. The 2020 Buick Encore will be the first model to get a new VSS-S platform, designed especially for crossovers. With new design solutions and technologies, expect to see a significant weight loss, as well as overall improvement in terms of driving experience. Besides mechanical improvements, the 2020 Buick Encore will also come with a completely new styling. The testing model has been spotted on the road. However, it wears a complete camouflage, so it seems hard to go into something more specific. Still, we can clearly notice that the overall shape is about to remain the same. Of course, a new design language will be applied. Expect to see something similar to what we can see on new models like Enclave, LaCrosse etc.
A completely new cabin is another novelty to come for the 2020 Buick Encore. For this occasion, we expect to see a new layout, which will utilize a completely new center stack, instrument cluster and much more. The current model walks on the fine line between mainstream and premium cars if there is a premium car of this size, so expect quality material and a little bit longer list of standard features, compared to the competition. Speaking of the competition, some of the class-leaders are models like Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax, Toyota C-HR and others.
When it comes to the powertrain, we expect to see a familiar 1.4-liter turbo inline-four unit, which currently delivers around 153 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Will it get some power boost, we can’t tell at the moment. On the other side, a new 9-speed automatic transmission looks like a certain thing.
2020 Buick Encore Release Date and Price
The 2020 Buick Encore will come in the second half of next year, most likely in the fourth quarter. Before that, we could see its premiere on some of the major car shows. In terms of price, we don’t expect bigger changes compared to the current model, which starts at $23,000.
