After the revival of the legendary Regal, it looks like the GM’s brand is about to offer us another model with a familiar nameplate. This time, it will be a 2020 Buick Grand National. The legendary version of the second-generation Regal appeared in the early 80s and it was a real refreshment if the brand’s lineup, which wasn’t too much exciting in this year. To be fair, it isn’t’ exciting even nowadays, though there are several crossovers, sedans and even a convertible in the lineup. So, what to expect from this one?
Buick’s engineers and designers definitely took a quick look at the model’s roots and decided to bring back a little bit of the original flavor. So, we have no doubt that the new model will come in a two-door coupe layout. More precisely, it will be a mid-size executive coupe, most likely related to the new Regal. Though this model is actually in the third generation, it actually came to the U.S. market last year. Previous versions were for the Chinese exclusively, just like many Buick models, which are hugely popular in this country. So, the new 2020 Buick Grand National should adopt the same design language. It features plenty of elegant lines and sleek profile. Definitely a real premium approach.
On the inside, the 2020 Buick Grand National should mimic the new 2020 Regal. In practice, that would mean an interior quality which goes pretty close to the premium segment. Also, expect a long list of standard features. On the other side, expect legroom compared to Regal sedan. Cargo space will also be slightly smaller but should remain pretty generous for the class. In terms of tech features, the new 2020 Buick Grand National will have to offer a lot of things. All in order to compete with other mid-size cars. Speaking of the competition, one of the potential rivals could be a new Accord Coupe, which is about to come next year. Still, the Accord will probably be far superior in pretty much all aspects, including handling, performances, fuel economy and the overall quality.
We expect to see 2020 Buick Grand National with the company’s new 2.0-liter turbo inline-four engine under the hood. This engine seems quite efficient. It delivers around 250 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. We should see a performance GS version in the offer as well. This one uses a large 3.6-liter V6 engine, which in this case delivers around 310 horsepower.
