The legendary full-size sedan is about to come completely redesigned as 2020 Chevrolet Impala. For all these years, the Impala has remained one of the most popular models in its class. So far, there have been ten generations of it. The current model is present since 2014 and considering its usual production cycle, it will get a replacement pretty soon. The new generation is about to bring a lot of improvements. We are about to see better driving dynamics, as well as a completely new styling and interior design. Big changes are expected under the hood as well.
The new-generation 2020 Chevrolet Impala is about to get a lot of novelties. Of course, the most important is a new platform. We expect to see a new version of the GM’s modular E2 platform, which underprints various models of this company, including smaller Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse, Opel Insignia and a few more. Latest reports suggest that the new platform should provide massive weight savings, probably around 300 pounds. Of course, expect to see a completely new styling as well. Basically, we should see something similar to the recently-updated Malibu, just in a bigger package. There is the brand’s newest design language, characterized by sharper lines, new two-piece grille, reshaped lighting groups etc.
GM’s engineers will have a lot of work to do in order to improve the interior quality of 2020 Chevrolet Impala. We should see plenty of novelties in this case. Of course, there is a completely new cabin design to come, but the most important task would be to a use of some better-quality materials, so the new model could successfully compete with the class-leader Toyota Avalon. Compared to the current-generation Impala, the Avalon also comes with much more standard equipment, especially in terms of safety, so this is the field where we could expect a lot of novelties from 2020 Chevrolet Impala as well.
The current-generation Impala comes with three engines in the offer. However, the base four-cylinder unit seems a little bit underpowered. So, the new 2020 Chevrolet Impala will probably get a newer, 2.0-liter turbo inline-four engine, with a max output of 250 horsepower. A familiar 3.6-liter V6 should carry over, though some improvements in terms of power and efficiency seem very likely. The current version is good for about 305 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is a mild hybrid in the offer. The current system that relies on a 2.4-liter gasoline and delivers around 200 horsepower should also carry over, though with some improvements as well. Expect to see new 9-speed automatic transmission in the offer.
2020 Chevrolet Impala Release Date and Price
The 2020 Chevrolet Impala will most likely come in the second half of the next year. We don’t expect some significant changes in price compared to the current model, which goes in a range between $28,000 and $38,000.
