It looks like the Raptor is finally about to get some decent competitor if we can trust latest reports. According to them, we are about to see a new, performance version called 2020 Chevy Reaper. As you probably know, the new generation of Silverado came recently, with plenty of novelties. The company planned this off-road version even for the previous generation but gave up eventually. The new generation will get it, luckily. Though it’s not official yet, it looks very likely. The new Chevy Reaper should come next year.
The second year of production usually doesn’t bring anything special in terms of novelties. In this case, the things are completely opposite. Not only that the new-generation Silverado will get HD versions next year, but this performance model as well. The 2020 Chevy Reaper will share same base design characteristics but also come with plenty of unique details. Of course, most of them will be in terms of exterior design, where we are about to see a lot of visual enhancements. Expect to see things like new bumpers, new off-road tires, and higher ground clearance, among numerous new details. Also, we should see a significant mechanical upgrade, mainly in terms of the new off-road suspension.
On the inside, the new 2020 Chevy Reaper should follow the path of the recently introduced fourth-generation Silverado. Expect to see the same cabin layout, though with plenty of new details. Of course, all of them will come in order to emphasize a truck’s sporty character. Though it is still early to talk about something more specific, things like new trim, sporty pedals and steering wheel and similar things seem pretty certain.
At the moment, this seems like the biggest mystery of the new 2020 Chevy Reaper. While 2020 Ford Raptor relies on a super-efficient 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers around 450 horsepower, the new 2020 Chevy Reaper will probably use V8 engine. GM doesn’t have such efficient V6 at the moment, while the new inline-four seems way too small for such occasion. So, there are two possibilities. We will see either 5.3- or 6.2-liter engines under the hood. In their base variants, their engines are good for about 355 and 420 horsepower, respectively. So, a 6.2-liter unite will definitely require fewer modifications for this occasion. Most likely, we will see its LT1 variant, which powers muscle cars like Camaro and Corvette. It is good for about 455 horsepower, though we could see further tuning for this occasion as well. In any case, a max output definitely won’t go over 500 hp.
2020 Chevy Reaper Release Date and Price
The 2020 Chevy Reaper should come sometime in the next year. Most likely, we will see its premiere in the first half of the year, on some major auto show. On the other side, sales will probably start in the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, the new model should go between $45,000 and $50,000.
