Considering the significant update that is coming for the 2019 year model, most people would think that there is not so much maneuvering space for further changes. However, latest reports suggest that the 2020 Ford Edge will bring novelties as well. It looks like the company will introduce a new, hi-performance version of this crossover, under ST badge. For this occasion, we will see a lot of modifications. Expect changes both on the exterior and interior designers, as well as a new powerful engine under the hood.
In terms of styling, the 2020 Ford Edge shouldn’t be much different compared to the 2019 model, at least when it comes to base versions. The recent update has brought a lot of changes, more than most of us would actually expect for a mid-cycle refresh. The new version comes with a completely new front end, which adopts the brand’s newest design language. There is a new headlights design, as well as a new, Explorer-grille. The front bumper has been significantly reshaped as well. Rest of the crossover, though, remains largely the same. For the new ST version, we should see few upgrades. This would mean things like new rims, slightly sportier bumper and other details that will accentuate model’s performance character.
The recent update has also brought a lot of changes on the inside. There are things like new trims, new color schemes, new audio system and other tech features. The 2020 Ford Edge will carry on with all of these things. Still, a new performance version will probably come with few additions. Expect a special treatment of color schemes, new trim, aluminum sports pedals and other sporty details.
The biggest novelty for the next year will be a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine. This version will power the new ST variant. It has a max output of 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. This seems like a nice advantage compared to most mid-size crossover. However, FCA offers two models that are far sportier than this one. The first one if, of course, Grand Cherokee, which comes with three V8 units in the offer. This includes even a large 6.4-liter V8 engine, which comes in variants with either 475 or monstrous 707 horsepower. A slightly less exciting Dodge Durango also comes with two V8 units. Besides the new V6 EcoBoost, the 2020 Ford Edge will also continue with a familiar 2.0-liter engine, which is good for about 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will use the same 8-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Ford Edge Release Date and Price
The 2020 Ford Edge should at the usual time, which would mean in late 2019. Base models will go around $29,000, while a new ST model will probably cost around $43,000.
