The popular compact crossover is about to come completely redesigned next year. Latest reports suggest that the 2020 Ford Escape will come with a lot of changes. It seems pretty certain that the new model will continue in the same way as the outgoing generation. The changes should be evolutional, with subtle modifications on the styling and interior design. On the other side, mechanics should suffer far more. The new 2020 Escape will ride on a completely new platform, borrowed from new 2020 Focus, and also get some novelties under the hood.
The most important thing about this redesign is a platform. The new 2020 Ford Escape will get a completely new architecture. Basically, it is the same architecture that the company uses for new Focus, which came recently. The outgoing model is also in a close relationship with the popular compact car, so this isn’t surprising at all. The new chassis will be lighter and also with better rigidity and torsion. All these improvements will provide better driving dynamics, as well as overall efficiency.
A new styling is the most notable thing about every redesign and 2020 Ford Escape won’t be an exception. It will come with the new look, largely inspired by the new Focus. Basically, this would mean an application of the brands newest design language, characterized by sleeker headlights and more massive grille, which also seems a little bit more rounded. The area that probably suffers most is bumper. It will get a new look, with sharper lines, bigger air intakes and completely new fog lights design. The rest of the body should feature a shape similar to the new Focus, just with a bit of SUV-is spices like higher ground clearance, different side skirts, more underbody protection etc.
It’s not hard to guess how the 2020 Ford Escape interior will look like. Once again, it will mimic the new Focus. In terms of dashboard design, changes are subtle. Still, we will see a bunch of new tech features and safety systems. However, the biggest improvement compared to the previous generation will be in terms of interior space. The new platform brings longer wheelbase, which is crucial for the legroom, especially for rear passengers. With this improvement, we expect from the new Escape to finally be on par with Honda CR-V, which has been superior in this aspect so far. On the other side, Ford’s new infotainment system seems more user-friendly compared to both CR-V and Toyota Rav4. That will definitely be one of its strong points.
2020 Ford Escape Redesign Engines
The engine lineup will be quite familiar. Base versions will come with the Ford’s super-small 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which comes in three output variants – 85, 100 and 125 hp. If you prefer something more powerful, there is a 1.5-liter unit, which delivers either 150 or 180 horsepower. All engines could be paired with either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. Finally, the latest reports suggest hybrid powertrain as well. However, details are still unavailable.
2020 Ford Escape Release Date and Price
The new-generation model will have the premiere later this year. Sales should start in the first half of the next year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around $24,000.
