One of the best mid-size crossovers on the market is about to get a mid-cycle update next year. Latest reports suggest that the 2020 Honda Pilot will come with a bunch of changes, which should confirm even more its position on the market. The current generation came in 2015, so this seems like a logical move. This refresh will bring styling changes mostly, but there is also an important novelty to come under the hood. The 2020 Pilot will finally get so-awaited hybrid powertrain, which will make it even more competitive. Expect to see the updated version sometime in the second half of next year.
Just like every mid-cycle update, this one will also be mostly about visual changes. Of course, the focus will be on the front end. The testing model has been spotted already and a camouflage points to areas that will receive changes. The 2020 Honda Pilot will adopt the brand’s newest design language. Basically, this would mean something similar to the new Accord. In this case, that would be a new grille and front fascia. On the other side, headlights shouldn’t be changed too much. At the rear end, the famous crossover will probably get new taillights, as well as few more new details. Of course, expect to see some new colors in the offer, as well as new wheels designs.
On the inside, we don’t expect to see such intense modifications. Most likely, this refresh will bring few subtle changes to the dashboard, while the overall design will remain largely the same. Same goes for the trim level organization, which will remain unchanged, though each version should get new standard features. The 2020 Honda Pilot will offer a hi-quality cabin, full of soft-touch materials. Compared to main competitors, the Pilot features a slightly shorter list of safety features compared to Toyota Highlander. The new 2020 VW Atlas is also a well-rounded vehicle. Still, the Pilot seems better than both of them, because of superior interior space and more powerful engine.
One of the biggest novelties for the 2020 Honda Pilot will be a hybrid powertrain. This update will finally bring some electric power to this excellent crossover. We are expecting to see the same system as in the new Accord. That would mean a combination of two electric motors and four-cylinder gasoline engine, with a combined output of 212 horsepower. With this powertrain, you can count on superior fuel economy, which should go close to 50 mpg. A familiar 3.5-liter V6 will carry on without changes. This engine delivers around 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2020 Honda Pilot sometime in the second half of the next year. The current model goes in a range between $31,000 and $47,000 and we expect the same from the new one. Still, notice that the new hybrid version will have a little bit higher starting point. Base hybrid versions will probably go around $33,000.
