The current-generation Frontier is definitely the oldest mid-size truck on the North American market, and a full redesign is something that we have been waiting for years. It looks like the new model will finally come as 2020 Nissan Frontier. Though we can still hear opposite reports about base design characteristics, there is no doubt that this redesign is about to bring a lot of significant improvements in all aspects. Expect to see the new model sometime in the next year.
After 14 years of waiting, this redesign should bring nothing but significant improvements. First of all, there is a new platform to come. The new model should come with some significant weight savings that will improve driving dynamics and overall performances. Most likely, the new models will use the same platform as full-size Titan, which came completely new two years ago. On the other side, some reports suggest Navara-based design, which also sounds good. Finally, you can find reports about the completely new architecture, though we are pretty sure that the company is currently occupied with crossovers and that there is no time and capacities for such development. In any case, expect to see a completely new styling, based on the brand’s newest design language, which will bring much more attractive visual appeal.
Significant changes are expected on the inside as well. The new architecture will provide a better use of space, so the 2020 Nissan Frontier should be roomier. Expect a significant increase in this aspect, as well as in terms of materials quality, so the new model could once again be on par with toughest rivals Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado etc. Also, expect to see a lot of new tech features in terms of safety and driver-assist systems. Once again, we are about to see both utility and comfort-oriented versions. The latter ones will also come with plenty of gadgetry and other connectivity features.
Changes under the hood should come as well. Though it is still early for some more precise specs, we are pretty sure that the capable 4.0-liter V6 will continue as an option. On the other side, the base 2.5-liter unit should be replaced with something more efficient. The new 2020 Nissan Frontier will probably come in a diesel version as well. There is a bunch of candidates to take the place under the hood. At the moment, a new 3.0-liter V6 from Mercedes seems very likely. This unit is very efficient and delivers a lot of power, around 250 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
2020 Nissan Frontier Release Date and Price
Considering a long-awaited redesign, the 2020 Nissan Frontier will probably have a premier on some major show in the next year first. Soon after, sales should start. When it comes to price, there is no doubt that the new model will cost significantly higher. An outdated design is the main reason why the outgoing model is so affordable. The new one will probably go around $25,000 in the base version.
