Nissan’s flagship sedan has been around for decades and it is currently one of the best full-size sedans you can find on the market. Characterized by efficient engine, dynamic ride and luxurious interior, the current generation is rated pretty high. Still, the company wants to justify that reputation so 2020 Nissan Maxima is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. Considering that the current model is on the market since 2015, this sounds like a perfect timing. The changes will predominately be in terms of styling. Rest of the car should remain unchanged.
The 2020 Nissan Maxima will continue to ride on the company’s familiar D platform. We are about to see pretty much unchanged base design characteristics. This sedan offers a pretty amazing driving experience, considering its size. In this aspect, the Maxima is one of the class-leaders, above models like Chevy Impala, Kia Cadenza and Buick LaCrosse. In terms of styling, this update will bring novelties on both ends of the car. Basically, we expect to see a little bit edgier approach, which will bring a little bit sharper bumpers, new details of the front fascia, tailgate, exhaust pipes etc. Of course, we also expect to see novelties in terms of new exterior colors, wheels designs etc.
The cabin has always been a strong point of this sedan. With top-quality materials and plenty of standard equipment, the Maxima definitely offers a lot of comfort. Even the base model comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, navigation, smartphone integration, satellite radio and much more. For this update, the company will probably expand the list of standard safety features. In the current version, standard safety features are things like rearview camera and forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. The 2020 Nissan Maxima could add more advanced systems to the list, like 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control etc.
Things under the hood are likely to remain the same. The current model comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which delivers around 300 horsepower. Besides excellent acceleration, this engine offers a very high dose of refinement, so an incredibly smooth ride is definitely one of the model’s strongest points. Of course, a well-designed CVT deserves credit as well. This large V6 is also pretty economical. You can count on 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which sounds pretty amazing for such a large car. Still, you should know that this engine requires premium fuel.
2020 Nissan Maxima Release Date and Price
Most likely, the updated 2020 Nissan Maxima will have its premiere early in the next year, at some of the major car shows. Sales should start a few months later, probably in summer 2019. We don’t expect changes in price, so base models should go around $35,000.
