2020 Nissan Pathfinder

2020 Nissan Pathfinder

Once a highly-capable SUV, the Pathfinder is more focused on comfort in these days. While the first three generations were designed in a classic body-on-frame manner, the current fourth-generation model is a modern crossover. It came in 2012, so next year seems like a perfect time for a redesign. Latest reports suggest that the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder will come completely new, with significant improvements in various aspects. Of course, expect to see a completely new styling, as well as new mechanics that will improve overall ride quality. Expect to see the new Pathfinder sometime in the next year.

Exterior

The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder is about to get a completely new styling. The current-generation model received an update recently but some old styling solutions are still notable, so it can’t really compete with much younger rivals. The new model will finally adopt Nissan’s newest design language, with the new V-Motion grille design and plenty of other novelties. The rear end is definitely an area that requires most changes, considering such an outdated look, so we have no doubt that designer will approach this part of the crossover very carefully. Also, expect a lot of mechanical upgrades. The current model doesn’t offer much of a driving experience. It acts very bad in cornerings and there is practically no such thing as driving dynamics. This aspect of the crossover definitely requires a lot of work.

Interior

This is another part of the crossover that will require a lot of improvements. Despite the recent update, its dashboard still looks pretty outdated, compared to younger competitors. On the other side, materials feature pretty fair quality, definitely on a decent level. In terms of interior space, we probably won’t see bigger enlargements, considering that even the outgoing model offers plenty of legroom and cargo space. Compared to the class-leader Toyota Highlander, it offers more space behind the third row. Still, overall volume is slightly in favor of the Highlander. Seats fold flat in the current Pathfinder, so the should in the new as well. The recent update has brought a lot of novelties in terms of tech features, so we can’t expect some super-significant improvements in this aspects. Still, we could see a little bigger touchscreen, while things like Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging and navigation should become standard features.

Engine

The current Pathfinder comes with a strong 3.5-liter V6 engine. It is good for about 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Such numbers are enough for one of the class-leading towing capacities, which goes up to 6.000 pounds. Fuel economy is also on a pretty good level, so there is no good reason why this unit should be replaced. It will carry over for the next generation, though there is also a chance to see a new turbo inline-four in the offer as optional. It is a new 248-horsepower 2.0-liter unit, which is far more efficient and should provide even better mpg ratings. Both engines will come with a  CVT gearbox.
