Despite the recent update, the Japanese manufacturer is already working on the redesign of this mid-size sedan. Currently, in the sixth generation, this model has been considered as one of the most practical sedans you can find around. With its spacious and pretty straightforward cabin, full of hi-quality materials, this model has often the first choice for many families. The upcoming redesign probably won’t bring any radical change. The 2020 Subaru Legacy will continue with its well-known design philosophy, characterized by a conservative approach in pretty much all aspects.
First of all, there is a new platform to come. The 2020 Subaru Legacy will ride on the company’s new, highly-modular platform. It has been already in use for some of Subaru new models. The new model will be lighter and there is also a chance to see a hybrid powertrain in the future, thanks to the design of this architecture. In terms of styling, the 2020 Subaru Legacy will continue with its rather conservative design approach. The overall shape should be pretty close to the outgoing model.
The current version comes with that familiar fastback-like profile, which makes it quite distinctive on the market. The only models that come with a similar styling approach are Mazda 6, though the segment is full of excellent models like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry etc. On the other side, the front end will get some new corporate details, including a new grille, LED headlights and many other things.
Inside every Subaru model, you definitely won’t find super attractive lines and something like that. This manufacturer is known for its design philosophy that puts focus on practicality over style. So, we expect that the new cabin will also feature pretty straightforward design, with a simple dashboard layout, but full of hi-quality materials. Also, expect to see a bunch of tech features already in base models. This refers to a new touchscreen interface, navigation, smartphone integration, as well as on a whole bunch of active safety systems, including blind spot monitoring, lane change assists, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking etc.
The biggest novelty for the 2020 Subaru Legacy will probably be a new engine. It looks like the company is about to drop both of the current units in the offer. The new version will come with a new turbo inline-four as the only option. It is a new 2.5-liter turbo engine, which is good for about 260 horsepower. In terms of transmission, it will come paired with a CVT. As we get used to Subaru models, it will feature a standard AWD layout. As we already mentioned, the new platform is also suitable for electrification. So, we should see a hybrid powertrain in the offer in the next few years.
2020 Subaru Legacy Release Date and Price
The 2020 Subaru Legacy should hit the market in the second half of the next year. The current model goes in a range between $22,000 and $32,000 and the new one should feature similar price.
