If you’re not familiar with this nameplate, that’s because this is a crossover that is available in Japan and few other Asian countries only. It is a mid-size crossover, so it seems easy to figure out that there is a bunch of similarities with globally offered Highlander. However, this one comes with a far more luxurious approach, which moves it closer to the Lexus RX and premium segment. According to the latest reports, the next-generation model will come as 2020 Toyota Harrier. There aren’t many details about the new model at the moment, so we must rely primarily on rumors.
The 2020 Toyota Harrier is about to completely new. This redesign should bring a lot of novelties. Of course, the core will be a new architecture. Count on numerous benefits, including significant weight savings. Also, it’s no secret that all new models from Toyota come with significant improvements in terms of driving dynamics. The new 2020 Harrier shouldn’t be an exception. Also, count on a completely new styling. However, we can’t say anything more detailed, because the current model doesn’t follow the brand’s design language entirely. Of course, the base shape should remain close to the outgoing model. Still, expect also to see numerous new, unique details.
On the inside, the 2020 Toyota Harrier will continue with its luxurious approach. Three rows of seating will be a standard feature. Also, expect further improvements in terms of materials quality, despite the fact that this crossover is already far more luxurious than its main competitors, models like Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5, VW Tiguan and numerous other mid-size and compact crossovers. Of course, there is a new dashboard design to come, with the stylish approach and plenty of digital controls, new safety systems etc. Toyota’s newest version of the Safety Sense suite should be a part of standard equipment too.
The current generation of this crossover comes with several efficient engines in the offer. Most of these units will carry on. The core should be a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which delivers around 230 horsepower. Seems like more than enough power for this crossover. Of course, there will be some other units in the offer, including a familiar hybrid system that can be found in new Camry as well. This is a combination of a familiar 154-hp gasoline engine and two electric motors. Total output goes around 210 horsepower but more importantly, fuel economy is superior. A large V6 engine probably won’t be in the offer.
