There is no doubt that the current-generation Land Cruiser is on the market for a too long. Although many would say that this model is still competitive enough, mainly because of superior off-road performances, the fact is that we haven’t seen too many new things since 2007. Considering such long productions cycle, it seem natural to see some significant improvement with the upcoming redesign. One of the most important novelties for the new model should be an optional hybrid powertrain. Though still to be confirmed, it seems very likely. Here is what we know so far about new 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid:
In terms of base design characteristics, the new 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid won’t be much different compared to standard gasoline model. We will see the same look, with only minor tweak that will accentuate its electrified character. All in all, expect to see the implementation of the brand’s new design language, which has always been kinda unique for the SUV lineup. More importantly, there is a new architecture to come. The company works on a new platform that will be underprinting all future truck and SUV models from this company. Of course, the focus is on weight reduction. The new 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid should be lighter than the current generation, though we expect to keep the similar dose of rigidity and overall off-road capabilities.
The current generation features some design elements that seem a little bit outdated. That’s no wonder, considering the fact the the cabin dates from 2007. So, we expect a significant improvement with this redesign. Once again, expect pretty much the same design as for the base gasoline model. Of course, expect a little bit different instrument cluster, due to hybrid powertrain. The new architecture should also bring improvements in terms of legroom, especially for the third row of seating, which is currently a little bit tight.
So far, this amazing SUV have been available exclusively with a large V8 engine. Despite amazing performances, a large 5.6-liter engine has one very weak point – fuel economy. Main competitors like Range Rover, Mercedes G-Class, Lincoln Navigator and others have far better mpg ratings. So, this hybrid system seems like a natural choice. We will see a familiar configuration of a 3.5-liter V6 and electric transmission with a battery pack. For this occasion, we should see a bit of a tuning. This should put the new 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid on par with gasoline competitors. A max output will probably go around 400 horsepower, but superior fuel economy will be the key trump of this version.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid Release Date and Price
The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid should hit the market sometime in the second half of next year. Though it’s still early for some precise estimations, we believe that the base model will go around $90,000, maybe a few thousands more.
