In many parts of the world, the legendary Land Cruiser comes in a smaller package as well. This model is known as Land Cruiser Prado or just Prado. So far, we have seen several versions of it. The current generation is present for almost a decade, so some changes definitely sound like a good idea. At the moment, we don’t have official information, but it looks like the company is finally about to take some actions in terms of redesigning the SUV and truck lineup. If we can rely on rumors, the new model could come already in the next year, as 2020 Toyota Prado.
The current generation has been around for a decade, so changes are more than welcome. The Japanese carmaker was very busy in the last few years with the development of new TNGA unibody platform, which will be the core for all future cars and crossovers from the lineup. Since the development is over, engineers finally have some time to work on the truck and SUV department. For this cause, a new body-on-frame platform is necessary. Most likely, it will also be very modular, so both full- and mid-size vehicles will use it.
One of the first models to receive the new design should be a mid-size 2020 Toyota Prado. Though there aren’t many details about the new model at the moment, few photos have been leaked and can be found in Japanese magazines. These images clearly indicate that the new 2020 Toyota Prado will come with a far more rectangular approach, which will ensure a more attractive appearance.
It seems too early to speculate about the 2020 Toyota Prado interior design at the moment. We can only rely on rumors and make some presumptions. We expect the new model to come with 7 seats in the base version. Also, further improvements in terms of materials quality look pretty certain. Finally, there is a bunch of new tech features to come. All these improvements would make 2020 Toyota Prado far more competitive in the segment where you can find models like Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, Mitsubishi Pajero etc.
Most likely, the 2020 Toyota Prado will continue with the same engines in the offer but also add some novelties. The current model comes with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder unit as the base engine. It delivers around 165 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, a large 4.0-liter V6 seems like a far more capable option. This engine is good for about 280 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. However, fuel economy isn’t a strong point of this engine. So, an addition of a newer-generation 3.5-liter V6 seems very likely. This engine is already available in a version for the Chinese market. Compared to the 4.0-liter unit, it features almost the same amount of power, while the economy is on a much higher level.
2020 Toyota Prado Release Date and Price
We expect to see the new 2020 Toyota Prado sometime in the second half of next year. Base price will probably go around $35,000 – $40.000, depending on the market.
