Judging on Toyota’s latest moves, it looks like the current-generation full-size truck will be active for few more years. While the “passenger cars” department looks very up to date with its recent redesigns of famous sedans and crossovers, SUV and truck department didn’t release anything important for years. The current truck is present for more than a decade, with the only minor refresh in 2014. The same thing is with Land Cruiser 2020 and other models. So, the company has another strategy to keep these vehicles competitive until the so much waited the next generation comes. One of the novelties will be 2020 Toyota Tundra Baja, a version inspired by the famous off-road race in Mexico.
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Toyota Tundra Baja won’t feature bigger changes. We will see a familiar decade-old body-on-frame design. On the other side, visual upgrades will be numerous. Of course, we will see a lot of paint job and Baja-inspired stickers but more than that, we will see some tweaks to the body. First of all, there is a new front fascia to come. Just like the potential rival, Ford F-150 Raptor, this model will get a black-plastic front fascia and grille, in order to accentuate truck’s sporty character. Speaking of the sporty character, expect to see a completely new suspension and tires kit, something similar to another new version – Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.
On the inside, we don’t expect to see any important changes. This version will feature a familiar interior design which a hasn’t been changed since 2014. For that occasion, we saw a dashboard reshaping, new metal surfaces and a bunch of new tech features. On the other side, the 2020 Toyota Tundra Baja should come with its own list of standard features, which should be a little bit more generous compared to standard models.
We have no doubt that 2020 Toyota Tundra Baja will be relying on V8 power. Even base models of this mighty truck feature large V8 powertrain. It is a familiar 5.7-liter unit, which delivers around 380 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. For this occasion, we could see few tweaks that will provide higher output and make this version more exclusive. For comparison, one of its potential rivals, Ford F-150 Raptor comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, with 450 horses and 510 pound-feet of torque. The 2020 Toyota Tundra Baja probably won’t reach these numbers, but exceptional reliability will be one of its advantages. There are also rumors that Toyota will bring a new Toyota Tundra Diesel version.
2020 Toyota Tundra Baja Release Date and Price
Though it seems too early to speculate about the launch date, we are pretty sure that the new 2020 Toyota Tundra Baja will come in the second half of next year. The new version will probably go somewhere between $45,000 and $50,000.
