Although buyers expected changes, 2021 Honda Civic Type R comes as an unchanged model again. It has been a long time since the last model was released, but there are still not expected changes in the design or engine type and strength. It is still a four-door model, runs on the four-cylinder engine and has the great sporty CVT transmission. The only we had, for now, is that it could have a new hybrid engine with 400 horsepower.
- Smashing looks
- Best-in-class equipment
- Stiff ride
- Low fuel efficiency
There are no expected changes in the design of 2021 Honda Civic Type R. As spy photos showed, the model should continue on the same platform and design, so there are no differences in dimension and shape. The front end could have slight changes in shape.
Looking from the outside, dimensions of 2021 Honda Civic Type R is almost the same as before, so the cabin should be the same in dimensions. It obviously affects the size of it, so expect the same design, too. The technology could come slightly upgrades, though.
There are no expected changes in engines that come in 2021 Honda Civic Type R. It is expected that the new model will run on the same as the old one, at least one of the engines could be the same. It is 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine that produces 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
The engine comes along with the CVT transmission as before. However, if you are not sure in this engine, there could be offered 1.5-liter DOHC engine with 176 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. It could come paired with the six-speed transmission instead of the model above.
Both engines have a great fuel economy. As they claim. The model with six-speed transmission has 37 miles per gallon which are almost the best for the models in this class. As a matter of fact, it is way much better than models in sport class have.
However, the old 2.0-liter turbocharged engine could get a hybrid addition and produce even 400 horsepower. It will put the model closer to the best models in class, like Mercedes AMG and Ford Focus that announced a similar engine, too.
2021 Honda Civic Type R Release Date and Price
Since the manufacturer has not planned to make 2021 Honda Civic Type R much differently from the old models, the price should not be much higher than before. We expect that it will be in the range that Honda’s models are known to – around $30,000.
However, there are changes in dimensions, so it is expected that the model will have a slightly higher price than before. Lack of changes in a design affects the releasing date, too. It is expected that the manufacturer will wait for releasing a little more, so it could be on the market in July 2020 or even later.
