The new Supra is here after so many years. However, the Japanese manufacturer won’t stop on that when it comes to sports cars. There is another big novelty that the company is preparing for the next year. Yes, it is the next generation of the nimble-handling GT-86. The small coupe is about to get a complete overhaul and once again we are about to see cooperation with Subaru, so you may expect the new BRZ as well. The new model has been conferment and it will hit the market as the 2021 Toyota GT-86. However, the company still keeps most details as secret.
- Impressive driving characteristics
- Powerful turbo engine
- Supra-inspired styling
- Some drivers don’t like that Spartan interior design
We have no doubt that the 2021 Toyota GT-86 will stick to proven design solutions. This means we can once again count on an RWD coupe, which is all about excellent driving characteristics. The current model rides on a modified Impreza platform but it looks like the new one will switch to Toyota’s TNGA.
The company promises better-than-Supra driving experience, while the styling should be heavily influenced by the legendary, recently revived sports car. We expect the same coupe layout, though some reports suggest we could see a roadster version as well, an even more direct rival to Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Details about the interior design are a complete mystery at the moment. At this point, we can’t say anything about details, but we may presume some of the most basic design characteristics.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new will carry on in a familiar coupe layout, but the roadster is possible as well. When it comes to the dashboard design, we have no doubt that the new model will continue with a simple, driver-oriented design, though we would like to see a little bit finer materials.
This is where we expect to see significant improvements. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation, but it looks like the new 2021 Toyota GT-86 will definitely feature Subaru’s new turbo-four under the hood.
Of course, we are talking about a new 2.4-liter turbo-four, which delivers around 260 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. With such significant power increase, we can expect nothing but amazing performances and significantly better driving dynamics compared to the outgoing model.
2021 Toyota GT-86 Release Date and Price
The 2021 Toyota GT-86 will hit the market in the next year. It is still early to talk about the price, but we don’t expect that the new model will cost much more than the current one, which starts at around $27,000.
