So far, they have worked with Sorento hybrid vehicles, which are only available in Australia in 20 units every month. It appears that distributors will be more prepared for the impending Sportage.
Furthermore, the firm appears to have a more ‘ambitious’ strategy in that they intend to offer hybrid powertrain for more than one trim level (of the Sportage), such as the less expensive SX+, SX, or S lines, as well as the GT-Line (which is considered the top of the line).
The Revised Strategy
Kia Australia has been keeping an eye on the Kia Sportage hybrid family since the latest generation debuted more than a year ago. However, the hybrid variation has been sluggish to enter the Australian market, owing to a lack of resources and a roughly matching version for local showrooms.
The Sportage hybrid is already available in the United Kingdom, and it is designed as a right-hand-drive vehicle. However, the model is not the same as the one that will be introduced to the Australian market. The body model of the UK Sportage hybrid is short. It was made in Slovakia and sold throughout Europe. The set for the Australian market is the long body variety, which is made in South Korea.
Price and availability
Aside from the hybrid variant, there would be the’regular’ Kia Sportage. The manufacturing process for both the normal and hybrid models is taking place in South Korea. However, until today, the plant has been unable to produce the appropriate hand-drive variant. Although no pricing has been released or confirmed, many speculate that it will have the same premium standard (up to $4000) as the Kia Sorento hybrid version.
The current Sportage starts at $33,000, plus on-road charges for the S petrol manual (the entry-level model). It costs roughly $40,200 for an identical S grade with an automatic gearbox, all-wheel drive and a diesel engine. The price would rise to $53,000 with additional on-road fees for the all-wheel-drive and diesel-engine flagship model GT Line.

According to multiple reports, the new 2025 Kia Sportage hybrid will arrive in Australian showrooms. Plans have been made, with the first delivery scheduled for the beginning of next year, implying that it would arrive in early 2025.
The Kia Sportage will fight against Toyota’s popular RAV4 hybrid. Previously, the corporation had not mentioned anything regarding their hybrid variation, but given that Toyota has been rather vocal about their hybrid variants, they have finally announced their revised plan. If everything goes as planned, production will begin in late 2023 in South Korea.

Performance and Powertrain
The Sportage hybrid would be powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 1.6-liter capacity, a 1.2-kWh battery, and a 44kW (and 264 Nm) electric motor capable of producing 169 kW combined output. The Sportage is available in global markets with either an all-wheel drive system or a front-wheel drive system. It is unknown what type of driving system will be available for the Australian market.
